Washington State University Spokane Riverpoint Campus Master Plan

Building Spokane’s Health Sciences Center

Excitement and momentum continue to build at Washington State University Spokane. Each new program, facility, and research grant adds to our assets as a center for education and discovery in the health sciences and professions, design disciplines, educational leadership, and management. Your support as a community leader is equally vital.

We invite you to join us throughout the year as we share stories on those who make WSU Spokane thrive and grow. Find us on Facebook and Twitter, read the Campus Bulletin, and check out www.spokane.wsu.edu/health.

These were just some of our success stories in 2009:

Discovery

Faculty received competitive grant funding from the Life Sciences Discovery Fund, National Institutes of Health, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, among others. These prestigious sources fund important work in children’s health, substance abuse and mental health, and sleep and human performance.

Growth

We updated the campus master plan and dedicated the new Nursing Building and a supercomputing data center. We also received funding to design a Biomedical/Health Sciences Building essential to the expansion of our health sciences focus.

Service

Faculty and students aided with the H1N1 pandemic response and helped rural communities from Ritzville to the Palouse design their futures. They worked with teachers to improve math and science education and to help schools respond to students dealing with complex trauma in their lives.

Planning

We laid the groundwork for the next phase of growth in our health professions research and teaching, working with partners at the University of Washington and in healthcare to plan expansion of medical education including addition of a second year and more faculty in Spokane’s existing program. This builds on our “Team Care” approach: preparing health professionals to work in expert teams.

Please join us on our journey into an exciting future at WSU Spokane.
