Nancy Blossom, FIDEC, IIDA, has served as director of the Interdisciplinary Design Institute since July 2004. She joined the Design Institute as assistant director in the summer of 2002 after serving at George Washington University.
Blossom's commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship shapes the learning approach at the Institute, where students work together to examine real-world urban design challenges in a setting like that of professional design firms.
Blossom holds a master's degree from University of Missouri-Columbia, and is certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. She is recognized as a leader in national and international interior design associations and has won awards for her teaching, campus leadership, design and service to the interior design profession.
Blossom also serves as chair of the board of directors of the Journal of Interior Design (JID) where she works together with Jo Ann Thompson, professor emeritus at WSU Spokane and editor in chief of the journal. The JID is the only scholarly, refereed publication dedicated to issues related to the design of the interior environment.
Blossom's research and published works have focused on design of health care facilities for children, design education, and other subjects. She has worked as a professional designer for over 25 years.
