Health Policy and Administration

Why choose HPA?

NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

  • The Department of Health Policy and Administration was established in 1993 and has been CAHME accredited since 2000.
  • HPA is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) which is the only accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for health administration programs.
  • Washington State University was ranked #25 in the Recruiters’ Top Schools according to the U.S. News & World Report 2010.
  • WSU’s HPA program was also ranked #46 of the top Healthcare Management Schools according to the U.S. News & World Report 2011.

ACCOMMODATING

  • Classes are held in the late afternoons and early evenings Monday through Thursday to accommodate students who choose to work part-time or full-time during their study.
  • WSU allows graduate students up to six years to complete their degree, giving students the flexibility to adjust their course load as necessary.
  • Students can apply and be admitted for both the fall and spring semesters.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Required internships allow students the chance to get real world experience in the healthcare industry.
  • A new addition to the program is the ability to earn a Black-Belt in Lean Management/Six Sigma. Students and healthcare professionals can take these seminars online or in the classroom starting in September 2011.
  • The HPA placement rate for graduates since 2008 is 97% within 3 months of graduation.

NETWORKING

  • Students are encouraged to attend several health administration conferences including ACHE Congress and the Rural Health Conference.  These conferences are an ideal setting to network with professionals for potential internships and jobs.  Scholarships are often available to help offset cost of attendance.
  • A 15-person Advisory Board, composed of healthcare executives, connects students to the local industry. Students are invited to meet with members of the Advisory Board three times each academic year.
  • Alumni events provide students with the opportunity to network with graduates of the program.
  • The Associated Students of Healthcare plans and hosts networking, training, and informational seminars for students all year long.
  • The HPA program offers $5,000 in scholarships each year to assist in travel expenses.
