Education: Middle Level Math Endorsement

The Middle Level Math Add-On Endorsement program is a state-wide program designed for practicing teachers who wish to expand their areas of endorsement, with coursework available via face-to-face instruction and AMS videoconference.

Course prerequisites include completion of the following with a "C" or better:

Math 106 College Algebra, or an appropriate math placement score.
Math 252 Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers II, or an endorsement in elementary education.

Courses for the endorsement include the following:

Math 151 Calculus for Middle School Teachers
Math 303 Higher Geometry
Math 351 Algebraic Thinking for Middle School Teachers
T&L 426 Middle Level Mathematics Methods
T&L 427 Proportional Reasoning

Teachers who wish to add the Middle Level Math Endorsement to their certificates may participate in the program in two ways. (Pre-certified teachers should consult with their advisors for program application information, and begin the program after their first "block" of education courses.)

Non-degree, post-baccalaureate application

Submit the following to the Spokane campus:

Completed endorsement program application (pdf)

•Copy of valid teacher certificate.

•Official transcripts for any coursework that is applicable to the add-on endorsement (including prerequisites)

•A Middle Level Math Endorsement self-evaluation worksheet if you have taken courses you believe will count toward the endorsement.

•$50 check payable to WSU for evaluation/application fee.

 

Endorsement courses as part of a master's degree

Students may apply the majority of the middle level math coursework to a master's degree in curriculum and instruction on the Spokane campus. To apply, students will submit the following:

Master's degree application packet, including application to the WSU graduate school as a master's degree student.

Completed endorsement program application (pdf)

•Copy of valid teacher certificate.

•Official transcripts for any coursework that is applicable to the add-on endorsement (including prerequisites)

•A Middle Level Math Endorsement self-evaluation worksheet if you have taken courses you believe will count toward the endorsement.
