Dr. Darryl Potyk participates in the Medical Humanities Selective and Introduction to Clinical Medicine.
He is the WWAMI clinical coordinator for Spokane and assistant director of the Providence Internal Medicine Residency Spokane.
Potyk moved to Spokane in 1994. He spent his formative years in Los Angeles. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA and received his medical degree from the University of Southern California. He completed his residency and subsequent fellowship in internal medicine at LA County – Harbor UCLA Medical Center. During his fellowship in general internal medicine he developed an interest in perioperative consultation and geriatric medicine. After his training, Potyk worked with a large multispecialty group in Southern California providing primary care and perioperative consultation.
Potyk joined the full-time faculty at Spokane’s Internal Medicine Residency in Spokane in 1994. He has served a program director and as the chief of medicine and chief of staff at area hospitals. Potyk has published peer reviewed journals on topics related to perioperative care, primary care and medical education.
Potyk was recognized for excellence in clinical teaching in 2001 with the UW Internal Medicine’s “Excellence in Teaching Award” and in 2009 was selected as the American College of Physicians Washington Chapter “Internist of the Year.”
Potyk has been engaged in the community in a variety of roles including the Spokane Health Improvement Partnership’s Reducing Youth Gun Violence Project. He’s an avid bicyclist and cross-country skier and serves on the board of directors for the Spokane Nordic Ski Association.
