If an earthquake occurs:
Drop to the floor. Cover yourself. Crawl under a table or desk away from windows. Hold on to your shelter. Place your head between your knees to protect your face from flying glass or debris.
Stay where you are. Do not enter or exit a building during shaking.
Stay away from windows, mirrors, overhead fixtures, filing cabinets, bookcases, and electrical equipment.
Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, load-bearing doorway.
If you are in a HIGH RISE BUILDING, and not near a desk or table, move against an interior wall and protect your head with your arms.
Be aware that the electricity may go out or the sprinkler systems or fire alarms may turn on. Use flashlights. Do not use matches, lighters, or electrical switches.
Do not use elevators
Open doors carefully. Watch for falling objects.
Avoid using telephones except to report severe emergencies.
Do not move seriously injured persons unless they are in obvious immediate danger (of fire, building collapse, etc.)
If evacuation is ordered, proceed to the appropriate Emergency Assembly Location (EAL).
Inform emergency/rescue personnel of the location of any trapped person(s).
Wait for further instruction from university official.
