Explosion
Explosions may be accidental or deliberate and can be caused by chemicals, natural gas, propane, high pressure steam, motor vehicles or an explosive device.
If you see/hear an explosion.
Remain calm. Call 911, and then call Campus Safety/Security at 509.358.7995.
Be prepared for possible further explosions.
Leave the area, if possible. Move away from the sound of the explosion to a safe place.
If unable to leave, take cover under a table or desk or move into a windowless interior room, such as a restroom.
Stay away from windows, mirrors, overhead fixtures, filing cabinets, bookcases, heavy objects, and electrical equipment.
If evacuation is ordered take direction from the university official or the proper authorities, proceed to the designated Emergency Assembly Location (EAL) or other location as directed. If possible, take personal items such as car keys, purse/wallet with you.
Do not move seriously injured persons unless they are in obvious immediate danger. If you have to leave them tell authorities of their location and condition.
Open doors carefully. Watch for falling objects.
Do not use elevators.
Do not use matches or lighters.
Be prepared for fire or power failure to follow explosions.
Wait for further instructions from university official.
Fill out an Incident Report form (S25.20.7) and forward it, within 24 hours, as directed. Obtain the report online or by calling 509.358.7994. Immediately report accidents that result in death, serious injury (e.g., fracture, amputation) or in-patient hospitalization of WSU personnel or third parties. This applies to all personnel at the Riverpoint Campus, including WSU Spokane, EWU, Sirti, and Sirti tenants.
