Cougar sculpture

—Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks

Cougar sculpture by Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks

The Washington State University Alumni Association presented WSU Spokane with its bronze sculpture of a leaping cougar.

With this presentation, WSU Spokane joined all other Washington State University campuses in having such a statue.

The cougar was designed by Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks (1897–1987), a native of Utah who received great acclaim for his artistry. Fairbanks's sculptures—which include three heroic memorials in the National Statuary Hall and the original Dodge ram hood ornament—are found in communities throughout the United States.

Location: outside the north end of the Phase I Building.
