BOMB THREAT, WRITTEN THREAT, SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE:
If you receive a telephone threat:
REMAIN CALM. Listen carefully. Be polite and show interest. Try to keep the caller talking so you can gather more information.
Retrieve the Bomb Threat Question Card checklist and follow the instructions on the card. Complete the bomb threat card as quickly as possible. Retain the bomb threat card for Security to review.
Try to get the attention of other staff members to help you. Have them call 911 and Riverpoint Campus Security at (509) 358-7995 while you are on the phone with the caller.
Immediately check your workspace and the areas with which you are the most familiar. If any suspicious object or package is noted, DO NOT TOUCH IT and keep others away. Call 911 immediately.
If evacuation is ordered take direction from the university officials or police, proceed to the appropriate Emergency Assembly Location (EAL) or other direction, as directed. Upon leaving your office, tape or place a note on your office door saying you have checked your area. Take personal items such as car keys, purse/wallet with you.
WRITTEN THREAT/SUSPICIOUS PARCEL
If you receive a written threat or suspicious parcel or if you find a suspicious object anywhere on the premises:
DO NOT MOVE OR TOUCH THE ITEM AND KEEP OTHERS AWAY.
Notify Riverpoint Campus Security at (509) 358-7995 immediately with description of package. Call 911 if you are unable to contact Riverpoint Campus Security.
Promptly write down any information regarding the package, (address, postmark, etc.) that you can remember and anything you remember about receiving the letter or parcel, or finding the object. Law enforcement investigators will need this information.
Remain calm. Inform the supervisor in your office and immediately evacuate the building. When evacuation is ordered, proceed to the appropriate Emergency Assembly Location (EAL). Take personal items such as car keys, purse/wallet.
Make yourself available to Security and Police to relay information.
Complete an Incident Report form (S25.20.7) and forward it, within 24 hours, as directed. Obtain the report online or by calling (509) 358-7994. Immediately report accidents that result in death, serious injury (e.g., fracture, amputation) or in-patient hospitalization of WSU personnel or third parties. This applies to all personnel at the Riverpoint Campus, including WSU Spokane, EWU, SIRTI, and SIRTI tenants.
