The local scene
Downtown Spokane features an eclectic array of buildings and services—from historic gems such as the luxurious Davenport Hotel and the art deco Fox Theater to the 100-acre Riverfront Park complex—that create an urban experience at once charming and exciting.
Here you can take in live performances of rock, rap, reggae, and beyond at the Knitting Factory Concert House or relish the artistry of the Spokane Symphony. Intimate downtown venues showcase rising local musicians, while live theater and art galleries abound.
And with a premier location along the Spokane River and immediately adjacent to downtown, WSU Spokane is next door to the city's dining, shopping, and entertainment.
As a regional medical center, Spokane boasts excellent health care providers. The school systems are nationally ranked for their high quality. Local neighborhoods contain a variety of housing options, from downtown lofts to historic homes and affordable apartments. Is there a better place to live? Not according to RelocateAmerica. Spokane placed among its Top 100 Places to Live for 2010, as well as being named on NBC's Today Show as one of the Five Most Affordable Cities in America.
With everything it has right in town, Spokane is also within an easy drive of Seattle, Portland, British Columbia, and the scenic playgrounds of north Idaho and western Montana.

Spokane serves as the perfect jumping-off point for first-class, four-season recreation among the region's many clear lakes and rivers, national forests, trails, and ski resorts.
The Spokane River, located in the heart of the city, runs right beside our campus. Bordering the river is the Centennial Trail, which supplies miles of trail for walking, bicycling, and blading; just west of the downtown core is a developing whitewater park.
The fun doesn't stop at the river's edge. Eight golf courses in the county and another six within an easy drive make Spokane a golfer's dream. The city annually hosts Hoopfest, the largest 3-on-3 street basketball tournament in the U.S., and Bloomsday, one of America's largest timed road races. From climbing walls to laser tag to cycling clubs, Spokane has outlets for your energy.
