Chancellor’s Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award

The Office of the Chancellor and Vice President for Health Sciences presents this award to honor a faculty member who exemplifies innovation and impact in research, scholarship and mentoring faculty and students as future researchers to impact the health of individuals and communities.

Eligibility

WSU Health Sciences faculty members with appointments in any of the tracks who are engaged in research or scholarship in the health sciences.

Criteria

The Chancellor’s Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates creativity and innovation in research or scholarship, broad dissemination of findings that will have an impact on health or healthcare, and effective mentoring of students and faculty. Activities recognized by this award reflect a record of sustained accomplishment over a period of years, demonstrated through one or more of the following:

  • Publication in well-respected scientific outlets
  • Evidence of frequent citation by researchers at other institutions
  • Success at winning and maintaining external funding
  • Receipt of patents and licensing or transfer of the technology to the marketplace
  • Acknowledgement of scholarly accomplishment by a professional organization
  • Successful mentoring of doctoral students and/or post-doctoral researchers

Application and Review Process

Nominators are asked to submit a narrative describing the candidate’s accomplishments as per above and the candidate’s CV. The narrative should be comprehensible by a health sciences researcher whose area of expertise differs from that of the candidate. It should be a maximum of one page/500 words. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of research-active WSU Spokane faculty.
