National Academy of Medicine explained

December 12, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Any faculty members interested in learning more about membership in the National Academy of Medicine as well as the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, are invited to a presentation m. TODAY in SAC 501 by two faculty leaders from the Pullman campus.

Guy Palmer, a WSU Regents professor of pathology and infectious diseases in Veterinary Medicine and the senior director of Global Health, has been a member of the National Academy of Medicine since 2006 and has served as vice chair and chair of the member committee including the disciplines of nursing, nutrition and pharmacy.

Palmer and Craig Parks, assistant vice provost, professor of psychology, and a recipient of WSU’s Sahlin Faculty Excellence Award for Leadership this past March, will be talking about the benefits of academy members, the process for nomination and consideration and the accomplishments that make a faculty member a viable candidate for membership.

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), established in 1970 under the name Institute of Medicine (IOM), is an independent organization of eminent professionals from diverse fields including health and medicine; the natural, social, and behavioral sciences; and beyond. It serves alongside the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering as adviser to the nation and the international community. Through its domestic and global initiatives, the NAM works to address critical issues in health, medicine, and related policy and inspire positive action across sectors. The NAM collaborates closely with its peer academies and other divisions within the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
