Biomedical Seminar Series

March 7, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Ghrelin: from orexigenic signal to metabolic regulator – studies of ghrelin signaling in thermogenesis and macrophage polarization” by Yuxiang Sun, M.D., Ph.D.

Yuxiang Sun is an assistant Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science. Sun is an expert on the “hunger hormone” ghrelin. She generated the first ghrelin knockout mice, and discovered ghrelin’s novel roles in diabetes, thermogenesis and macrophage polarization. Her laboratory uses state-of-the-art tools to study ghrelin in energy sensing, intake, and expenditure. Her work suggests that ghrelin might be a promising drug target for obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and aging.

Biomedical Seminars are open to all members of the WSU Spokane campus and AMS can be arranged if a colleague from another campus would like to attend.

For questions or to request AMS, contact Breezy Tottenhoff at biomedsci.medicine@wsu.edu.
