Faith and Health Care Conference

February 10, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Washington State University Spokane received a grant from the Interfaith Youth Core to sponsor a Faith and Health Care Conference in collaboration with Eastern Washington University, Gonzaga University, Whitworth University, UW Medicine, Community Colleges of Spokane, and North Idaho College.

It will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 at WSU Spokane in PBS and starts at 8 a.m. You can read more about the conference here.

The conference asks students who are preparing for a career in health care to become more engaged with issues of faith, deepen their understanding of their individual traditions, and how to serve as leaders in educational and health care settings for encouraging interfaith dialogue and understanding.

Participants will reflect on their own traditions while learning how to respect and engage with other traditions. Learning will occur within an interprofessional setting. The conference has a limited number of attendees so students who are interested in attending need to email James Mohr, vice chancellor of the Division of Student Affairs, at james.mohr@wsu.edu or call 509-358-7526.

Breakout topics being covered include:

  • Interfaith Communication
  • Faith, Law, and Health Providers
  • Collaborating with Faith Communities

There are also three panels consisting of:

  • Death and Dying from Different Faith Perspectives
  • Exploring the Intersection of Faith and Healthcare: A Patient’s Perspective
  • Exploring the Intersection of Faith and Healthcare: A Practitioner’s Perspective

For faculty and staff, we also have some spots open on our panels. If you would like to be a panelist on one of the topics, please email James Mohr and let him know.
