Noon Lecture – WWII Japanese Incarceration

September 18, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

“Diversity at WSU: Its Relevance to the Student Community and Washington History” is the title of a talk to be delivered by Patti Hirahara, whose Japanese American family from Yakima lived through a two-year forced incarceration in Wyoming during WWII.

All are welcome to the free lecture, scheduled from 12 – 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 18, in SAC 147.

Hirahara’s grandfather and father – then a teenager – documented the family’s experience in the incarceration camp with photos. More than 2,000 of those photos were gifted by Hirahara in 2010 to the WSU Library and they are part of the library’s achives now. Her father, Frank C. Hirahara, was a 1948 WSU graduate in electrical engineering. The lecture is hosted by the WSU Spokane Student Diversity Center.
