Teaching Academy presentation on videoconference

February 8, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Spokane faculty will have the opportunity on Feb. 8 to attend a seminar called “Becoming a Better Teacher” via videoconference, sponsored by the College of Veterinary Medicine Teaching Academy.

The seminar is from 12:10 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in SAC 341 and will be presented by Martin Smith, a University of California-Davis specialist in Cooperative Extension and Veterinary Medicine available for 1½ days next week in Pullman.

Spokane faculty have the additional option of asking for a group conversation with Smith on Feb. 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in SAC 415.

Seminar: BECOMING A BETTER TEACHER: “Building your capacity as an educator by using evidence-based professional development strategies.”   (For more information see the website.)

Description: Despite their widespread use, traditional approaches to the professional development of educators have been shown to be largely ineffective. In particular, methods like attending a teaching seminar typically do NOT foster meaningful changes. Dr. Smith will introduce and discuss the salient characteristics of reform approaches that are much more likely to produce long-term, sustainable change and improve outcomes.
