Visiting Scholars in Autism Spectrum Disorder

February 27, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Visiting Scholars in Autism Spectrum Disorder Research & Clinical Service Delivery Speaker Series

Mendy Minjarez, Ph.D., assistant professor, psychiatry & behavioral sciences, University of Washington, clinical director & director, Applied Behavior Analysis Early Intervention Program, Seattle Children’s Hospital, will present Integrating Autism Research, Clinical Practice and Early Intervention on Feb. 27 from 4:30 to 5:40 p.m. in SAC 20.

Mendy Minjarez will present research and clinical practices incorporating naturalistic developmental behavioral intervention (NDBI). Minjarez’ clinical and research experience incorporating parent education within the NDBI model has been widely published. This approach integrates evidence-based practices for ASD within the context of addressing behavioral needs to promote communication and language development. Pediatricians play a key role in ASD diagnosis and helping families access treatments. Minjarez will provide an overview of a benefit available to families of young children with ASD in Washington State under Medicaid guidelines. This treatment benefit accessible through a physician’s diagnosis capitalizes on an interdisciplinary team approach and the use of applied behavior analysis (ABA) in intensive early intervention programs.

Light refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited. Please RSVP to Laura DiFilippo.
