Joining him are Dr. Jacob Deakins and Dr. Alan Hendrickson.<\/p>\n<p>Belenky launched the <a href=\"http:\/\/dev.spokane.wsu.edu\/researchoutreach\/sleep\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sleep and Performance Research Center<\/a> on campus, which currently operates under the <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine<\/a> umbrella. His research looks into sleep deprivation and its effects on continuous operations, among other topics.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->In 2006, Belenky&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.wsu.edu\/2011\/01\/20\/researchers-apply-fatigue-model-to-fatal-air-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\">research\u00a0found that an air traffic controller in a Lexington, Ky. plane crash<\/a> was &#8220;substantially fatigued&#8221; and was on a schedule that wasn&#8217;t friendly to a body&#8217;s normal sleep schedule. Belenky has testified in front of Congress about the effects of sleep deprivation in the aviation industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.wsu.edu\/facultyandstaff\/gregory-belenky-md-fapa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Belenky<\/a> came to WSU Spokane from the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and served as a regimental psychiatrist in the Army during the Gulf War.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokanelibrary.org\/chof\/\" target=\"_blank\">Citizens Hall of Fame<\/a> debuted in 2015 and recognizes individuals who have made, &#8220;outstanding contributions to the quality of life&#8221; for the city and its people.
