Under construction since May of 2015, the Spokane Teaching Health Clinic<\/a> will open this summer and serve the public.<\/p>\n

The 40,000 square-foot facility will also be where medical residents work and where health sciences students from WSU Spokane and Eastern Washington University gain valuable experience.<\/p>\n

Medical residents are a hot topic these days, with pushes both here and elsewhere to increase opportunities for residents in rural areas.<\/p>\n

The Spokane Teaching Health Center – a partnership among WSU Spokane<\/a>, Providence Health Care<\/a> and Empire Health Foundation<\/a> that helped create the clinic – has pushed for more residency slots in Eastern Washington.<\/p>\n

There are currently 89 residents in Spokane. Washington as a whole has 1,600 residency slots. That represents a major discrepancy between rural and urban areas. The clinic and the Center are one way WSU is working to increase residencies in our area and focus on the health of the entire state.<\/p>\n
