{"id":5107,"date":"2025-09-22T15:14:57","date_gmt":"2025-09-22T22:14:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/spokane.wsu.edu\/news\/?p=5107"},"modified":"2025-09-22T15:16:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T22:16:05","slug":"sac-to-be-renamed-in-honor-of-kirk-schulz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/spokane.wsu.edu\/news\/campus-community\/sac-to-be-renamed-in-honor-of-kirk-schulz\/","title":{"rendered":"SAC to be renamed in honor of Kirk Schulz"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday, Sept. 19, WSU&#8217;s Board of Regents voted unanimously to rename the Spokane Academic Center (SAC) in honor of former president Kirk Schulz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Spokane Academic Center, which opened in 2006, was designed to house a library and serve as the administrative building for the growing health sciences campus. The building housed administrative offices for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine before its move to the recently renovated Medicine Building. Today, the facility also serves as a hub for student activities and amenities such as the HUB and the Interprofessional Learning Commons.     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Numerous members of the WSU\u00a0community wrote letters in support of the renaming of the Spokane campus facility to the Kirk\u00a0H. Schulz Academic Center. Among them were nine past, present, and future Faculty Senate chairs, as well as five former student regents and community leaders who\u2019ve previously served on WSU\u2019s governing board.
