The study will investigate how a kratom product affects how the body processes another drug of interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This study will consist of four arms. During arm 1, you will be given kratom as a tea. During arm 2, you will be given the object drug. During arm 3, you will be given both kratom and the object drug. During arm 4, you will self-administer kratom at home for 4 days, and on day 5 you will be given both kratom and the object drug. During all arms, pupil diameter will be measured throughout the study day. During arms 2-4, blood samples and urine will also be collected. You will receive a screening medical exam and will undergo routine blood and urine laboratory tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You will receive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up to $125 for completing Arm 1<br>Up to $300 for completing Arms 1 and 2<br>Up to $475 for completing Arms 1, 2, and 3<br>Up to $1,400 for completing all Arms of the study (1, 2, 3, and 4)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You may be eligible to take part in this study if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Are from 21-45 years old and healthy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weigh between 130 and 250 lbs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a body mass index between 19 and 30<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are not taking any medications (prescription and non-prescription) or dietary\/herbal supplements that can interfere with your ability to eliminate the study drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to abstain from consuming dietary\/herbal supplements and fruit juices for several weeks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to abstain from cannabis\/marijuana, hemp, THC-, and CBD-containing products for several weeks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to abstain from consuming caffeinated beverages or other caffeine-containing products the evening before and the morning of the first day of each study arm<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to abstain from consuming any alcoholic beverages for at least 1 day prior to any study day and during the study day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to use an additional method of contraception that does not include oral contraceptive pills, patches, or other hormonal methods (such as abstinence, copper IUD, condom)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have consumed kratom previously and tolerated it well without unpleasant effects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are willing to abstain from taking kratom for at least two weeks prior to beginning the study and for the duration of the study<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are geographically located within a 40-mile radius of Spokane and have the time to participate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You will not be eligible to take part in this study if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Are under 21 or over 45 years old<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weigh less than 130 lbs or more than 250 lbs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a body mass index less than 19 or more than 30<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are taking medications or dietary\/herbal supplements that can interfere with your ability to eliminate the study drugs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have never taken kratom or have experienced unpleasant effects after taking kratom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a chronic illness including but not limited to kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cancer, or HIV\/AIDS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a hematologic (blood) disorder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a history of substance abuse, dependence, addiction or major psychiatric illness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a need for chronic opioid pain medications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have used opioid pain medications within the last 3 weeks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have an upcoming need for opioid pain medications (e.g., planned dental or surgical procedure)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a history of intolerance or allergy to kratom or opioids<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have ever used amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, MDMA, opioids, PCP, or other drugs for recreational purposes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have used cannabis\/marijuana, hemp, CBD-, and\/or THC-containing products within the last month<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are pregnant or nursing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are geographically located outside the 40-mile radius of Spokane and do not have the time to participate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cannot speak, read, and understand English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For more information about this study, please contact:<\/strong><br>Deena Hadi, Program Manager<br>Phone: (509) 368-6692<br>Email:\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:deena.hadi@wsu.edu\">deena.hadi@wsu.edu<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Healthy subjects needed for kratom-drug interaction study.
