Fuse Career Fair

EWU, Whitworth, Gonzaga and Washington State University band together to host a career fair that pulls employers from all over the country; however, a good amount is still in the Spokane area! At this career fair, we have raffles for prizes and free professional headshots. This event is hosted at the Spokane convention center, which is within walking distance of our WSU Spokane campus. Fuse Career Fair will be held April 6, 2022. Please bring your resume or CV and dress to impress!

Career Services Orientation

Career services has so much to offer just on their website! Some students assume that this service is for when you graduate, but this is not true! Come learn about the resources that will help you be prepared beyond the Learn the differences between the different job databases, internship versus micro-internship, and other strategies to get a head start on your career.

Resume Building

Key words are the name of the game to bring your application to the next step for an interview. Come to this workshop to learn how to review a job description, learn more about WSU’s service of ResumeWorded, and how to format your resume for success.

The document that portrays “the course of your life.” Learn the appropriate formats and strategies to compete in academia, research or specialty fields.

Interviewing

Some thing interviewing is like having a conversation; however, this is a high stress environment where your words literally matter because it will dictate how well you can negotiate your compensation package. We encourage you to set up an appointment for practice interviews in your field. We also hold workshops to help you create answers to common interview questions and also determine which kind of work experience stories to show in behavioral interview questions.

Salary Negotiations and Compensation Packages

One company offers more money, and the other company keeps emphasizing their benefits package. What does this mean and how does this impact you? Comparing job offers so you can get the best package as well as knowing what options to negotiate and ask for is vital in today’s economy where the average job seeker will have 12 employers or more before retirement. Learn the etiquette necessary in salary negotiations and the language of how to negotiate.

Networking

The “hidden” job market is reputed to be extensive and much bigger than what you see in the job databases. Come learn to create the mindset of building professional networks with introducing yourself via the elevator pitch and the informational interview, creating a digital and local presence.

Government Jobs

The federal government is the largest employer in the USA; however, state and local governments employ even more workers! It’s a large field that has unique hiring practices. Learning objectives will include how to submit an application that will get an interview.

Internships

A way for employers to guide the next wave of employees and a way for you to get work experience in the field to be a competitive applicant. The internship provides a work experience that has specific learning goals. Learn strategies to find internship opportunities and negotiate learning objectives.

Developing a Portfolio

You can talk about your work skills or you can show them! Portfolios are one way that you can show competency in the field and gain a better understanding about you and your passion/purpose in the career.

Informational Interviews

The benefits of mastering the art of the informational interview is boundless! It’s an awesome technique to build your professional network, find hidden opportunities, and is a go-to strategy for working a room, including job fairs.
