Hanford History Talk

March 27, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

“Evolution from Weapons Production to Environmental Cleanup, Current Challenges, and Successes Realized to Date”

WSU alumna, Carrie Meyer, Director of Public Affairs, Department of Energy, Office of River Protection, at Richland, WA will kick off a brand new U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) lecture series in partnership with WSU Tri-Cities.

Carrie Meyer’s lecture will cover the history of Hanford, the evolution from weapons production to environmental cleanup, and the challenges and successes realized today. The Hanford area faces a significant new challenge as a large percentage of the workforce becomes eligible for retirement in the next 5 years. The DOE and its contractors are actively recruiting interns and staff in a broad scope of professional and technical jobs. Linking DOE operations with faculty, students, and workers in our communities, this lecture series focuses on sharing information and discussing key technical challenges to be solved by today and tomorrow’s workers.

Carrie Meyer joined the U.S. DOE Office of River Protection in 2007. She has 23 years of experience in communications, marketing, information management and public affairs in government, engineering, and nuclear power industries. She has completed assignments for the Assistant Secretary of Energy for Environmental Management and the Secretary of Energy focusing on congressional interactions, policy, tribal nation engagement, and communications.

Live AMS video-conferencing is scheduled in Spokane from the Pullman campus.
