Student Petitions
Students may, with the payment of a service fee, petition for exceptions to the academic calendar deadlines (e.g., withdrawal after the deadline) or petition for withdrawal from an individual course after the student has used the maximum number allowed. Petitions are considered only in the case of extraordinary circumstances such as a medical emergency and require supporting documentation.
Petitions for exceptions to the academic calendar deadlines and withdrawal limits must be made within two years of the date of enrollment in the course.
Undergraduate and Professional Students
The Undergraduate and Professional Student Petition form is your petition to request the University to make an exception to an academic deadline for you. Please read the instructions carefully. This form is not for course substitutions or waiving degree requirements.
Please print the form from your browser, sign and date, and e-mail, fax or mail it to us with your supporting documentation. You will be billed a $10 non-refundable processing fee on your student account for filing the petition.
Graduate Students
The graduate school will review all graduate student petitions and forward to the Spokane Registrar for processing, upon approval. Graduate students should work with the department coordinator for assistance with this process.
Graduate students may petition to add, drop or withdraw from courses through the Graduate Student Petition form.
Petition for a Monetary Refund or Late Fees
All WSU Spokane students may petition for a refund of late fees. The Petition for a Refund form must be submitted to the Spokane Registrar for review. Students are encouraged to provide a detailed explanation and supporting information, if available.
For graduate student petitions that involve a monetary request, graduate students must submit a Petition for a Refund.
The Petition Review Process
All petitions are reviewed by the Petition Committee. The Petition Committee membership is comprised of representatives from Student Financial Services, Access Center, Student Accounts, Registrar, Student Affairs and an academic department (currently vacant). The petition committee meets on an as-needed basis, at least one time per month to review petitions. The Spokane Registrar will communicate with the student regarding the status of the petition through their official WSU email address.
Questions regarding petitions should be directed to the Spokane Registrar.
