Our team is dedicated to creating a safe and secure campus to ensure our students, faculty, and staff can focus on academics, research, and public service. We offer a variety of services to support a welcoming campus environment where everyone can thrive.
On-Campus Safety
24/7 Security Staffing and Escort Services
Campus Security is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Security officers are available 24/7 to escort employees and students to and from their vehicles or other places on campus. You can contact Campus Security, day or night, at 509-358-7995.
Building Access and Office Risk Assessment
Access to buildings on the WSU Spokane campus is provided through your CougarCard. Simply tap your card to gain access to campus facilities during business hours. If you need access to certain facilities outside of normal hours, you can submit a work order.
The security team can visit and review your building and office for safety vulnerabilities and risk mitigation related to hostile intruders. Contact Campus Security to schedule an assessment.
Campus Night Walk
Campus Security organizes an annual Campus Night Walk with the campus community to assess possible hazards to safety and security during evening hours. Participants survey the campus grounds for overgrown areas, lighting concerns, and other possible hazards to visibility.
Emergency Response Testing & Training
Campus Security is responsible for leading regular fire drills, emergency response drills, training, and regular tests of the emergency alert system. If you have questions about upcoming drills or tests, please contact Campus Security.
Vehicle and Property Security
Bicycle Registration Program
The bicycle registration program is open to all faculty, staff, and students and can help identify your bicycle if it is stolen. Bring your bike to the Campus Security office, located in Medicine Building 103, during regular business hours to register your bike. Cyclists are encouraged to use a U-lock to secure their bicycles to campus bike racks to deter theft.
Parking Lot Patrols and Enforcement
Safety officers patrol all campus parking lots on a regular basis to prevent theft. However, the campus community is encouraged to lock their car and keep personal items out of sight to prevent break-ins. For added safety, Green permit holders can “Park-Up” in Orange parking lots between 5:00 PM and 5:00 AM daily for no additional charge. More information can be found on the campus parking website.
Security Camera System
In the event of an incident such as a break-in or vehicle accident, we may be able to provide video camera footage to local authorities, depending on the location.
Vehicle Assistance
Vehicle won’t start? Keys locked inside? We provide jump starts and can help you get into your vehicle.
