From as far back as Spokane’s early years, the 50 acres a few blocks east of downtown were anything but pretty.

By the 1960s, when community leaders realized that area and the rail yards downtown had become a blight on the community, those 50 acres were plagued by waste and neglect.

Fortunately, it wasn’t too long after that realization that things changed for the better.

Committee Set to Find WSU Medical School Founding Dean

WSU leaders provided an update on where the university is at in its pursuit of a medical school in Spokane today, releasing the names of those on the Founding Dean Search Committee.

State Legislators Announce Support for a WSU Medical School in Spokane

If you haven’t heard yet, there is growing support for a WSU medical school headquartered in Spokane.

On Tuesday, State Senator Michael Baumgartner (R-Spokane) and State Representative Marcus Riccelli (D-Spokane) announced bipartisan support for a WSU medical school. The two legislators announced they would introduce bills in their respective chambers to amend a law that is nearly a century old that mandates that only the University of Washington can operate a publicly funded medical school in the state.
