Health Sciences Collections

The Health Sciences Library is part of the broader WSU Libraries system, and its collection exists within the context of the full WSU Libraries collection.

The Health Sciences Library collects monographs (books) that serve the current needs of the Health Sciences programs housed within the colleges of Nursing, Medicine, and Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. This includes both print and electronic books; decisions on format are made based on availability, cost, and likely audience.

Print books may be placed in the circulating collection (i.e. Stacks) and can be checked out by patrons to use outside of the library, or in the reference collection to be used in-library only. Electronic books may be available to use by a single-user at a time or with multi-user licenses, depending on availability, cost, and usage.

All WSU patrons can borrow circulating books from any WSU library by requesting the item through the library catalog to be delivered to their home-campus library. WSU students, faculty, and staff can also request circulating books from any library in the Summit system, a consortium of 39 academic libraries in the Pacific Northwest, and through interlibrary loan.

The Health Sciences Library and WSU Libraries also subscribe to online journals, databases, multimedia, and data sources. Many of these titles can be found by searching the library’s discovery layer, Search It, or accessed directly through our list of all databases.

Search It is a discovery layer, bringing together the library’s catalog of print and digital materials, alongside records for many items not held in the library’s collection. Use Search It to:

  • Find books in the library’s collection
  • Find articles in the library’s collection
  • Request books and articles through interlibrary loan
