Connect with MESA

Dedicated To Fostering Growth

Spokane MESA, based at WSU Health Sciences in Spokane, equips and empowers students in Spokane, Cheney, and Inchelium to thrive in STEM.

We inspire future leaders in math, engineering, and science through hands-on learning and mentorship in a supportive community. As part of the initiative across ten states, MESA connects students with STEM career pathways and leadership development opportunities. Spokane MESA is dedicated to fostering growth, innovation, and access to a meaningful and fulfilling future for all students we serve.

Our Focus

The mission of the Spokane MESA program is to:

  • Cultivate Curiosity: We strive to instill a love for learning by fostering curiosity and creativity in mathematics, engineering, and science.
  • Provide Access: We are committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have access to quality education and resources in STEM fields.
  • Build Community: MESA is not just a program; it’s a community. We aim to create a supportive network where students can connect, collaborate, and thrive together.

What We Offer

Spokane MESA supports students across the region in grades 6-12, with a three-prong approach to student programming that includes In-class, Club and At-large Models:

  • In-class: Spokane MESA Staff supported in-class enrichment in MESA dedicated science classes and electives in grades 6-10, with a matriculation pathway from middle to high school in most districts.
  • After-school clubs focus on enrichment, academic support and student projects for the MESA National Engineering Design Challenge  .
  • An At-large model exists for students not enrolled in a MESA class, to engage with MESA programming enrichment, campus visits, mentorship, and academic supports.
  • Hands-On Learning: Our program is centered around experiential learning. Students engage in interactive projects, workshops, and competitions that bring STEM concepts to life.
  • Mentorship Opportunities: Guidance is crucial on the journey to success. MESA connects students with experienced mentors in the STEM fields, providing valuable insights and advice.
  • Enrichment Activities: Beyond the classroom, MESA offers a range of enrichment activities, from industry visits to guest lectures, broadening students’ perspectives on STEM careers.
  • College and Career Support: Preparing for the future is a key focus. We provide resources and support for college applications, internships, and career exploration.
