Wellness Collaborative

Wellness comes in many shapes and forms, from physical fitness to healthy eating and emotional wellbeing. The WSU Spokane Wellness Collaborative fosters a thriving culture of wellness for employees and the greater campus community and provides access to resources to help you excel in all realms of your health.

Physical Wellness Resources

Wellness Walking Group

Take a quick break from your work, enjoy nature, socialize, and get some exercise in! The Wellness Walking Group meets outside of the northwest entrance of the Kirk H. Schulz Academic Center every Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. for a 30-minute walk. To be added to the Wellness Walking Group Outlook calendar invitation, please email spokane.wellness@wsu.edu.

Fitness Center Discounts

WSU Spokane employees are eligible for discounted memberships to local fitness centers, such as MUV Fitness, the Spokane Club, and the YMCA. Additional health and fitness discounts may be available through your insurance provider.

Campus Shower Facilities

If you would like to run or walk on your lunch break but are worried about getting sweaty, there are showers available for staff use in the following locations:

  • HSB Building
    • Basement – Room #67, neutral restroom, one shower stall, no lockers
    • 2nd Floor – Locker rooms 221 & 223 – Men’s & Women’s, one stall each
  • Nursing Building
    • Basement – Men’s & Women’s restrooms, 1 shower stall each, no lockers
  • Medicine Building
    • Basement – Men’s & Women’s restrooms, 2 shower stalls each, lockers without locks

Mental & Emotional Wellness Resources

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Washington State EAP provides mental health counseling, education, and consultation services to improve your health, wellbeing, and job performance. Resources include monthly webinars, toolkits, and one-on-one counseling.

WellCoug Health & Wellbeing

Employees have access to live and on-demand training and workshops related to wellbeing, mental health, burnout, work-life balance, and suicide prevention, offered in Percipio.

Other Wellness Resources

  • Diabetes Prevention Program – a no-cost, online program designed to identify people living with pre-diabetes and help them make lifestyle changes to improve their health. 
  • Ergonomic Evaluation – WSU EHS provides resources to help you set up your workstation to enhance comfort and safety.
  • Financial Health & Retirement – WSU HRS, DRS, and TIAA offer regular webinars and information sessions to help you plan for your financial future.
  • Living Tobacco-Free – Tobacco cessation support is available through your PEBB provider.
  • SmartHealth –  a voluntary and confidential wellness program that helps you take steps to improve your health and wellbeing, while having fun and connecting with others online.
  • Transportation Alternatives – WSU employees can reduce their environmental impact through rideshares, van pools, and no-cost bus fare on STA buses.
