Health Sciences Excellence Awards
The WSU Spokane Health Sciences Excellence Awards recognize students, staff, and faculty who go above and beyond their normal duties, show strong leadership skills, and serve as great representatives for WSU Spokane, both on campus and within the community.
Nomination Deadline
The deadline to submit nominations for all awards is Monday March 23, 2026 at 11:59 PM.
2026 Health Sciences Excellence Award Celebration
All award recipients and their guests will be honored at a celebration on April 29, 2026 on the WSU Spokane Campus. The event will take place in the Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences Building, 205 E. Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99202. Questions, contact Heather Byrd (heather.byrd@wsu.edu).
Faculty Excellence Awards
- Excellence in Teaching: This award honors a faculty member who exemplifies scholarly teaching and mentoring students as future healthcare professionals or researchers to impact the health of individuals and communities.
- Excellence in Research: This award honors a faculty member who exemplifies innovation and impact in research, scholarship, and mentoring faculty and students as future researchers to impact the health of individuals and communities.
- Excellence in Service: This award honors a faculty member who exemplifies service to the college, campus, university, or community.
- Excellence in Interprofessional Education: This award honors a faculty member who exemplifies leadership in interprofessional education and/or scholarship in collaborative teamwork to impact the health of individuals and communities.
Staff Excellence Awards
- Administrative Professional: This award recognizes an administrative professional employee who consistently goes above and beyond their defined responsibilities to advance the mission of the university. Recipients demonstrate exceptional leadership, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to take on new challenges in support of the broader campus community.
- Civil Service/Classified Employee: This award recognizes a civil service/classified employee who demonstrates initiative, innovation, and service-minded leadership. Recipients demonstrate meaningful contributions that enhance the workplace, strengthen partnerships, and help make the university a better place for all.
Student Excellence Awards
- Leadership Award: This award honors students for their leadership and academic contributions to the campus and university, as well as their commitment to innovation and ingenuity in their chosen field. Each college on our campus can receive up to two recipients in this category.
- Community Engagement Award: This award recognizes students who demonstrate meaningful impact in our surrounding communities through service-learning, philanthropy, or project-based initiatives that foster collaboration and contribute to significant community advancement.
- Legacy Award: This award recognizes a graduating student whose influence, ideals, and activities throughout their college career have had a lasting, positive impact at WSU. This award is open to graduating seniors or students in their final year of study at the university.
