Traditional caps and gowns are recommended at all WSU Commencement ceremonies. Those being commissioned as officers in the ROTC program may choose to wear either their military uniform or a cap and gown.
Student Regalia
All regalia orders made before February 13 will receive an early bird discount.
All regalia must be ordered by March 28 at 8:59 PM PST. Any orders made after March 28 will incur additional shipping and order fees. Regalia accommodations will not be made after April 17.
Tips for Wearing Regalia
Honor Cords
Undergraduates earning a 3.5 or higher grade-point average are considered honor students and can receive a custom WSU honor cord of crimson and silver. Contact your academic department or college dean’s office for information. Honor cords are provided by your college unit/department.
Stoles and Sashes
Wear your stoles, sashes, and cords underneath the crimson and gray yoke and pull the yoke up to your neck. To do this, reach around to the back and pull the end of the yoke down.
Bachelors degree graduates wear tassels on the right side of their caps. All other degree graduates wear tassels on the left side.
Shipping and Returns
Regalia will be shipped to the address you list as a home address. Graduates of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have the option to home ship or pick up their regalia on campus in the PBS Building. Check your regalia as soon as you receive it to ensure everything is correct; do not wait until the day of the ceremony.
Graduates are responsible for shipping their gowns/orders back to Herff Jones using the pre-paid shipping labels provided on the Herff Jones website, where you placed your order. Graduates have one full week from their commencement date to return regalia. Graduates may keep their caps and tassels.
- Bachelor graduates will need to return the rental gown and yoke.
- Master’s graduates will need to return the rental gown and hood.
- Doctorate students will need to return the rental gown and hood.

Ordering Faculty Regalia
All regalia must be ordered by March 13 at 8:59 PM PST. There is no rental charge for faculty regalia. Any faculty regalia orders made after March 13 will be charged full price, plus shipping.
Faculty regalia orders will be delivered to Robin Schultz at the WSU Spokane Bookie (SAC Main Floor) by April 17. Faculty will be notified when their order has arrived for pick up at the Bookie. Faculty should return their rented regalia to the Bookie within five days after Commencement.
