Current Funding Priorities
The Washington State University Spokane campus has identified the following funds as the highest priorities for the campus at this time:
Vice President of Health Sciences’ Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded annually to health sciences students enrolled in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, nutrition and exercise physiology, and speech and hearing. Scholarship funding enables students to realize the freedom to participate fully in leadership opportunities, research, academic clubs, and civic engagement.
WSU Spokane Chancellor’s Excellence Fund
This fund supports the most urgent needs in teaching, research, and scholarship at WSU Spokane. Unrestricted funds enable quick action in the face of unanticipated needs and help to ensure continuity in educational and research excellence.
Gleason Institute for Neuroscience
WSU’s Gleason Institute for Neuroscience is taking an integrated approach to research and care for those suffering from ALS and other debilitating neurogenerative diseases. Investment will support research, care, and exposure to adaptive technology for patients, families, and their caregivers.
Native American Health Sciences Fund
The Center for Native American Health was established in 2021 and supports students, faculty, and clinicians who identify as Native American through an interprofessional curriculum designed to integrate indigenous-based cultural traditions and history with medicine. Support will provide transformational opportunities for Native American students and will aid in student academic success while providing a culturally holistic centered space for our communities to engage.
Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) Excellence Fund
IREACH is a university-wide institute that conducts community-based research devoted to mitigating disparities in health and health care among American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and rural populations. It is one of the largest academic units dedicated to the health of Indigenous people in the U.S. and has worked with 150 partners in 19 states. The Excellence Fund supports a variety of high impact needs for the Institute not covered by grant funding, including outreach and engagement with partner tribal and community organizations, and recruitment and support of Native scholars and students.
