Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award

The Office of the Chancellor and Vice President for Health Sciences presents this award to honor a faculty member who exemplifies scholarly teaching and mentoring students as future healthcare professionals or researchers to impact the health of individuals and communities.

Eligibility

WSU Health Sciences faculty members with appointments in any of the tracks who are engaged in teaching health sciences students.

Criteria

The Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates creativity and innovation in teaching, a scholarly approach to teaching that Is responsive to student needs and the changes in science and healthcare, and effective mentoring of students and faculty. Activities recognized by this award may include outstanding singular accomplishments or a record of excellence over a period of years, demonstrated through one or more of the following:

  • Engagement and stimulation of student interest in healthcare topics and issues
  • Successful adoption of new and innovative teaching methodologies, and mentoring of colleagues on new methodologies
  • Publication in scientific outlets of original scholarship on teaching pedagogy
  • Direct impact on student accomplishment in licensure, placement, and employment
  • Development of new courses or curricula that address emerging issues in healthcare

Application and Review Process

Nominators are asked to submit a narrative describing the candidate’s accomplishments as per above and the candidate’s CV. The narrative should be comprehensible by a health sciences instructor whose area of expertise differs from that of the candidate. It should be a maximum of one page/500 words. Nominations will be reviewed by a committee of teaching-active WSU Spokane faculty.
