NEW Leadership


The Office of Community Engagement and Service Learning at WSU Health Sciences Spokane is pleased to partner with the Political Science Department at Gonzaga University to bring the NEW Leadership Summer Institute to Eastern Washington.

The NEW Leadership summer institute is a non-partisan, six-day residential program designed by the renowned Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University. The program is dedicated to inspiring, educating, and supporting the next generation of public serve leaders.

Applications for the institute will open in Spring 2018 for the 2018 cohort of NEW Leadership WSU Spokane-Gonzaga University.

Program Eligibility

NEW Leadership WSU Spokane-Gonzaga University Eligibility Requirements
NEW Leadership is open to part time and full time undergraduate students (rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors) enrolled for the 2018-2019 academic year in any Washington college or university, as well as Washington residents enrolled in out-of-state schools. New Leadership WSU Spokane-Gonzaga University is committed to including students from diverse socioeconomic, ethnic and racial backgrounds and of all ages. We strongly encourage women of color, nontraditional college women, and students majoring in fields outside political science to apply.

NEW Leadership participants are required to attend all summer institute sessions and live on campus during the entire program July 12th-17th 2018. If you are accepted you will be required to acknowledge and agree to meet these requirements.

What does the program cost?
The program fee is $200 per person. The fee covers housing, food, on-campus parking, and all program materials for the six days of the Institute. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Summer Institute.
